Conversations@Cathedral

These sessions aspire to connect our Cathedral with the community through various modes.

Format

  • Experts and novices from different fields share their ideas, innovations and expertise on different topics in a safe, open and supportive environment

  • Objective is to enable our community and congregation have informed conversations that stimulate and cultivate connects between faith, work and day to day activities

  • Approximately 60 minutes duration

  • Encourages and nurtures friendship circles and networks

Major Neil Leckie RFD (Retired)

Neil commenced his Army career as a National Serviceman and after his two years became an Army Reservist for 32 years (23 in Ballarat).

 

He has a special interest in Ballarat's military history and has managed the military museum at Ranger Barracks in Alfredton for over 20 years. In 2008 Neil wrote Country Victoria's Own, recounting 150 years of the Army in Ballarat. Neil has also been a Volunteer Tour Guide at Gallipoli and on the Western Front.

The Right Reverend Nishantha Fernando

Bishop of Kurunegala, Church of Ceylon

(Anglican Church in Sri Lanka) 

​

In 2023, Rt. Rev. Nishantha Fernando became the seventh Bishop of the Kurunegala Diocese in the Church of Ceylon. Ordained priest in 1996, he served in various roles, including as Chaplain of the Kurunegala Diocese's youth movement and as a lecturer at the Theological College of Lanka. With degrees from the University of Peradeniya and Newman University, UK, and graduating from Serampore University in India, Bishop Fernando contributes regularly to a variety of Christian publications. Currently, he is pursuing doctoral studies at Serampore University, showcasing his dedication to both pastoral and academic pursuits.​​​​​
